Writers vs Pie: A Bite-by-Bite Analysis

By: Ben Pope

Some call it fate, others call it needing a second contestant. However you phrase it, it seemed like destiny for Harbor Hawks team writer Jason Boué to take part in McKeon Park’s pie-eating competition Monday evening.

Boué, who covered the contest in its first rendition, was very eager to take part. “Yeah, I definitely wanted to have some fun out there, and give the fans something to enjoy,” Boué commented post-pie.

During the bottom of the fourth inning, Harbor Hawk fans are given the opportunity to compete against one of the Hyannis players, seeing who can eat the most pie in thirty seconds. On Monday, it was Boué taking on Harbor Hawks pitcher Hiroyuki Yamada. In the end, the fans determined who ate the most, and declared Yamada was the winner.

Tough competition as Yamada and Boué go head-to-head!

In a post-pie interview, Boué was surprised in the difficulty of the contest. “It was way messier than I expected,” Boué mentioned, “…maybe I can go slower to chew it more?” Myself and the other writers can only wait until it’s our time to face the pie-eating gauntlet.

To join in on the fun, make sure to come by McKeon Park every home game for your chance at pie-eating glory!
