Children’s Night a rousing success as young fans enjoy McKeon Park

There was more than just baseball going on at McKeon Park Tuesday night.

July 11th was Children’s Night for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, and they went all out to make sure it was one to remember for all fans in attendance.

When asked about his favorite part of the event, 8-year-old Henry couldn’t pick just one thing.

“I think everything [was my favorite part],” Henry said. “I love this whole night!”

Henry definitely had lots to choose from to occupy himself. From cornhole to batting practice to face painting, there was an activity for everyone. Those more confident in their throwing abilities could even clock their arm in the pitch speed contest (two young fans Cam and Tristan tied for first at a whopping 73 mph).

Kids were also involved during the game. Ten-year-old Hunter was the first youngster at the game, and his prize was throwing out the first pitch, which he sent over the plate for a strike. Two children also got to try their hand at the expanded pie-eating contest featuring Bradley Hodges and Ozzie the mascot. Obviously, the stands, which were chalk full of kids, voted for their own to win the contest.

After the game, the fans who stuck around were able to run the bases, emulating their favorite Harbor Hawks as they crossed home plate. Some were even fortunate to snag autographs from the team, with the players signing for every kid who came their way.

“I think tonight was a huge success,” intern Mackenzie Kielblock, who helped organize the event, said. “We had so many families come out… All the kids that I talked to seemed to really enjoy it.”

Team president Dan Johnson agreed, noting that the Harbor Hawks are always happy to give back to the community and grow the next generation of fans.

Although the Harbor Hawks were unable to secure a win for the kids, the night was still a blast for all involved. Hyannis’ next event will be Bark in the Park on July 17, so be sure to bring your furry friends out to McKeon for another fun night of Harbor Hawks baseball.
