Hyannis Mets Team Coverage 2009Sunday, June 21, 2009Home Game Called After 1 Inning of Play
HYANNIS - Tonight's Met's (3-4) game against the Brewster Whitecaps (3-3) was called due to foul weather just before the start of the 2nd inning. Before the game, the few fans in attendance, along with Mets staff members were wondering if the competition would even start. The cold wind was making the light precipitation unbearable. However, decent field condition and a tight league schedule motivated the coaches and umpires to get the game going.
Seth Rosin (Minnesota) took the mound for the Mets. He got Brewster's lead off hitter, Tim Ferguson (Mississippi), to ground out. After walking a batter, Rosin struck out the next two for the final outs. The Mets had a chance to score in the bottom of the inning. Lead off hitter, Trent Whitehead (East Carolina) reached base on a walk. During Whitehead's attempt to steal second he realized that the throw from Brewster’s catcher, Bryan Holady (TCU), was off target. Whitehead rounded second and easily reached third. With one out, first baseman Cody Hawn (Tennessee) reached first after Brewster's pitcher, Matt Lujan (San Francisco, 0-1) snagged his ground ball and threw it too far off the bag. While Hawn was headed for first Whitehead was running home. Unfortunately, the ball made it there before he did and Whitehead was called out after sliding into the tag. Designated hitter, Ryan Cuneo (Delaware), struck out to end the inning. The Mets will travel to Bourne tomorrow to take on the Braves. Their next home game is this Wednesday, June 24th against the Wareham Gateman. Game time is set for 7:00 PM. Archives
