Bryce Stowell (UC Irvine) picked up the win for the Braves improving to three and one on the season and helping the Braves take their second win in as many nights. Stowell gave a solid performance, pitching seven innings allowing one run on four hits, striking out nine, and issuing no walks.

Though the Braves were able to score three runs on the night, all three runs were scored off of sacrifice flys. Colin Bates (UNC) got the start for the Mets, and was issued the lost going six innings and allowing two runs on five hits, striking out five and walking four. The combined seven walks issued by Bates and in later innings Ashur Tolliver (Arkansas Little-Rock) played a key role in the boosting the Braves offensive oppurtunities and allowed them to manufacture all three of their runs.

Bates ran into a jam in the second inning when the Braves loaded the bases on an infield hit by Kyle Roller (East Carolina) and back to back singles by Jame Johnson (Okalahoma) and Stephen Batts (East Carolina). The Braves then lit up the scoreboard when James Williamson (William and Mary) picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly that scored Kyle Roller. The Mets were able to close out the rest of the inning unscathed and answered back in the bottom of the fourth inning when Ben Paulson (Clemson) hit a leadoff solo homerun over the right field wall tieing the game at one a piece. The homerun, Paulson's eigth of the season was his third in as many games.

The Braves were able to tack on two more runs, scoring one in the top of the fifth, when two walks and bunt loaded the bases for Braves and Pierre LaPage (UConn) picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly that scored Stephen Batts. The Braves also added an insurance run in the top of the ninth when Brandon Bantz (Dallas Baptist) hit a sacrifice fly that scored Jordan Henry (Mississippi) who reached base on an infield hit, and was then moved along the basepaths on a LaPage sacrifice bunt, and a Marc Krauss single.

Hyannis would not go into the night without a fight though as Marcus Jones (NC State) lead off the home half of the ninth with a double, and single by Chris Dominguez (Louisville) put runners at the corners for Hyannis. Curt Casali (Vanderbilt) drove home Jones with a hard hit sacrifice fly, but Eric Pettis (UC Irvine) was able to preserve the win as he picked up his seventh save of the season fanning Ryan Eden to end the threat and the game.

Kyle Roller and Jordan Henry each went 2-for-4 with a run scored on the night for the Braves while Trent Ashcraft went 2-for-4 for the Mets.

With the loss, which snaps their two game winning streak the Mets are now tied with Cotuit for first, with Falmouth one point behind and Bourne sticking around only three points behind. With a loss Bourne would have been eliminated from playoff contention.

The Hyannis Mets look to take on the Chatam A's at home tommorow night under the bright lights of McKeon Park at 7p.m.

Mets Regain First Place

Hyannis- After nearly three weeks, the Hyannis Mets are once again on top of the Western Division of the Cape Cod Baseball League with a 6-5 win over the Wareham Gatemen. The Mets who won their second straight in two nights improve to 21-18 in the Western Division and tighten the gap between themsleves and 1st place Falmouth (20-17-1).

Y-D threatened early in the game, putting runners into scoring position in the bottom of the second when a sacrifice bunt by Nick Liles (Western Carolina) moved DeAngelo Mack (South Carolina) to third and Josh Rutledge (Alabama) to second, both of whom reached base on singles to start the inning. Jason Franzblau (Arizona State) was able to dowse the offensive fire that Y-D had started though, getting Andy Wilkins ( Arkansas) out in a run-down and striking out Mike Belfiore (BC) to end the inning. Franzblau, who started had a solid outing but recieved a no-decision since the game was still tied when he was relieved. Franzblau (1-1) pitched 6 innings and allowed four hits, walked two and picked up 2 strikeouts.

After an hour rain delay in the top of the fitfh the Hyannis bats came alive in the top of the sixth when Chris Dominguez (Louisville) scored Joey Gonzales (UC Riverside) from third with an RBI single. Ryan Eden (New Orleans) would add another hit for Hyannis as he reached base before the inning was over.

The Red Sox answered in the home half of the inning though, as Ryan Ortiz (OSU) hit a double to lead off the inning, and then moved into scoring position, reaching third on a wild pitch by Franzblau. Andy Wilkins would take advantage of the oppurtunity driving in Ortiz with an RBI single.

Russell Brewer (Vanderbilt) proved to be lights out in relief for Hyannis, shutting down the Red Sox offense, and preserving the one run lead Ben Paulson gave to them in the eigth. Brewer would pick up the win, his first of the season with the loss being charged to Chris Masters (0-2,Western Carolina). The umpires would call the game with the home half still to play on account of darkness.

The Mets look to win their third straight tommorow night as they take on the Wareham Gatemen under the lights of McKeon Park at 7pm.

Mets Walk-Off against Bourne

Dale Cornstubble (Central Michigan) delivered in the bottom of the ninth with a walk off infield single that plated Chris Dominguez (Louisville), as the Mets knocked off the Braves 3-2 at McKeon Park. The Mets took an early lead in the top of the 2nd, when Ryan Eden(New Orleans,3 hits, RBI) singled, then stole second on a botched pick-off move and was singled in by Curt Casali(Vanderbilt). Dominguez stepped to the plate in the top of the 6th, and laced a line drive home run, his 9th of the year, over the right field fence to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.

Wareham cut the lead in half on a triple off the bat of Ryan Pineda(Cal St. Northridge), knocking in Shea Vucinich(Washington State) who had singled. The Mets took the lead in the 5th after a Jones single and a wild pitch, Paulsen singled home Jones to make it 3-2. Bourne tied the game in the 7th with an RBI single off the bat of Henry. The game would stay at 3 a piece until Wilson's walk in the 10th.

Paulsen and Dominguez each had a pair of hits for the Mets(16-13), while Jones added three of his own in the loss. This long stretch of almost 30 consecutive games in as many days continues Friday, July 18th, at 7pm with a home and home against Wareham. Both teams will travel back to Hyannis for a 7pm start on Saturday, July 19th.

Mets Drop Marathon

Hyannis- Hampton Tignor(Florida) laced a two-out RBI single to center in the top of the 12th to give Orleans a 9-8 win over Hyannis. Winning pitcher Adam Wilk(Long Beach State,2-1) went 2 innings allowing just one hit for the Cardinals(18-9).

Orleans got the scoring started early, scoring a run in the top of the 1st on a double by Angleo Songco(Loyola Marymount). The Mets responded with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st when Ben Paulsen(Clemson) singled to right, by an error allowed Marcus Jones(NC State) to score from first. The very next batter, Chris Dominguez(Louisville) tripled home Paulsen and the Mets went up by the score of 6-2. In the top of the 6th, Orleans took advantage of two Mets errors and had two huge back-to-back extra base hits off the bats of Mike Murphy(Maryland) who tripled, then Alex Hassan(Duke) who doubled. The Cardinals scored 5 in the 6th and took a 7-6 lead.

The Mets did not wait long to answer, Jones led off the bottom of the 6th with a single, then Paulsen, who was a double away from the cycle, homered to right to give the Mets an 8-7 lead. The Mets took that lead into the 8th until the Cardinals tied the game without the benefit of a hit. Pinch-hitter Rich Poythress(Georgia) earned a bases loaded walk and an unearned run came into score. Orleans got back-to-back singles from Songco and Cole Figueroa(Florida) in the 12th, then Tignor's single put the Cardinals up 9-8. Hassan came in for a 1-2-3 bottom of the 12th to earn his 3rd save of the season.

The Mets(16-11) will play at Bourne, Thursday, July 17th at 7pm. The first attempt earlier in the season was rained out, and it appeared that this one was headed that way as well. However after about an hour rain delay, baseball was played at McKeon Park in Hyannis.

The Mariners struck first in the second inning as they were able to get two across the plate on three hits. Brandon Belt (Texas) led off the inning with a single and then advanced to third on a double down the right field line by DJ LeMahieu (LSU). In the next at-bat Mark Fleury (UNC) singled up the middle to score Belt. LeMahieu then scored on a sacrifice fly by Chase Leavitt (Arkansas). The Mets got two runs back between the third and fourth innings. Curt Casali (Vanderbilt) walked to get on in the third and was pushed to third base on a double by Trent Ashcraft (East Carolina). Casali scored on a wild pitch. In the fourth inning Ben Paulsen (Clemson) had a solo-homerun to right center. The Mariners scored again in the fifth when Shaver Hansen (Baylor) scored on a double by Belt. The Mets were able to bring the game to a tie in the seventh on a Casey Frawley (Stetson) RBI. That was as much as Hyannis could muster on this night as they had a rough eigth inning giving up four runs on four hits and not being able to come back.

Brian Dupra (Notre Dame) picked up the win for Harwich and Will Weidig (Brown) took the loss for the Mets.

Hyannis will be in action tonight in Wareham at 7:00 and will be back at McKeon on Wednesday night with a 7:00 game against Cotuit.

Who Needs Off-Days?

The Hyannis Mets have played baseball everyday for 22 straight days now, but that does not seem to bother them as they looked great in front of a large crowd at McKeon Park tonight, picking up the 6-1 victory over the Cotuit Kettleers. Slugging third-baseman Chris Dominguez (Louisville) started the scoring in the first inning with a solo homerun. His league leading eighth homerun on the season. The Mets then got the bats rolling in the 3rd inning, scoring 3 runs. Each run was knocked in by a different hitter. Matt Nuzzo (Brown) walked to start the rally, and then advanced to third on Ryan Eden's (New Orleans) double to left-center field. Nuzzo then scored on a groundout by Trent Ashcraft (East Carolina). Eden moved up to third and then scored on a groundout by Marcus Jones (N.C. State). The last run of the inning was driven in by Ben Paulsen (Clemson) on a single. Paulsen added another RBI in the 8th with a double scoring Dominguez who had reached on a single. The Mets then capped off their scoring with a double by Casey Frawley (Stetson) that brought in Paulsen. The Kettleers were able to score a run in the 8th inning to avoid the shutout when Kevin Patterson (Auburn) knocked in Jeff Kobernus (Cal-Berkeley) who had doubled in the previous at-bat.

Austin Hudson (Central Florida) picked up the win for Hyannis going 4 1/3 innings without giving up a run. Hudson got into a bit of a jam in the fifth with runners on first and second with only one out. Wil Harvil (Georgia) was brought in and escaped the jam unscathed, by striking out both hitters that he faced. Ashur Tolliver (Arkansas) came in for the next three innings and was very effective. The game was closed out by Russell Brewer (Vanderbilt). Alex Sogard (N.C. State) took the loss for Cotuit.

All in all, the Mets continued to look good this season and picked up their 3rd straight win. In a postgame interview, Mets centerfielder Marcus Jones said "We keep playing well as a team because we just go out and have fun, and that's why we win." They must really be having fun because Hyannis is still sitting in first place.

Stoneburner and Ridings keep Cardinals Caged

Orleans- East met West tonight as a division leading clash turned into a defensive battle for the West Division leading Hyannis Mets and East leading Orleans Cardinals. The Mets (13-9) proved to much for the Cardinals though, winning their second straight game as Graham Stoneburner (Clemson) and Matt Ridings (WKU) combined for a two-hit shutout to blank the Cardinals
(13-9) 1-0.

Stoneburner started the game and pitched five solid innings, giving up only two hits, walking three, and fanning three. Stoneburner ran into a little trouble in the third inning when he issued a walk to Tim Wheeler (Sacremento State), Matt Bowman (Nevada-Reno) singled, and Rich Poythress hit a sacrifice fly to move runners into scoring position. Stoneburner was able to keep the Cardinals caged though, as he recored the final out of the frame by striking out Angelo Songco (Loyola Marymount).

Matt Ridings took over the mound to start the sixth inning and picked up his first win after pitching four innings of shut-out baseball. Ridings improved to 1-1 and picked up two strikeouts on his way to the win.

The Mets bats which had been silent most of the night came alive in the top of the eigth, when Trent Ashcraft (Eastern Carolina) hit a double, and then stole third to move into scoring position. Marcus Jones (NC State) picked up his second RBI of the season when he hit a single that dropped in front of Orleans centerfielder Alex Hassan (Duke) and scored Ashcraft.

Overall the Mets scored one run on six hits with no errors, while the Orleans Cardinals mustered only two hits and commited one error.

The Hyannis Mets look to take on the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox tommorow night at 7pm under the bright lights of McKeon Park.

Louisville slugger makes history in Mets win

Third baseman Chris Dominguez (Louisville) joined elite company Wednesday night when he hit three homers to carry Hyannis to a 6-4 victory over Falmouth at McKeon Park.

Dominguez became just the second player in Cape Cod Baseball League history to go deep three times in a game with a wood bat. MLB great Frank Thomas was the first, doing so in 1988.

The fifth-round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies staked the Mets to a 2-0 lead in the first, sending Alex Wilson's offering well over the fence in straightaway center field. Dominguez hit his second homer in the sixth, a line drive to left-centerfield that left the park in a hurry. His third round-tripper came with one on in the eighth, giving Hyannis some much-needed breathing room heading into the ninth and bringing the packed crowd to its feet.

Dominguez also had a terrific day in the field. In the seventh, he caught a line drive off the bat of Joey Wong (Falmouth) and fired across to first for an inning-ending double-play. In the eighth, he grabbed another liner off the bat of Darin Ruf (Creighton) and touched the bag to help the Mets get out of a bases-loaded jam unscathed. Then, with Falmouth rallying in the ninth, Dominguez made a nice catch against the dugout railing.

Andrew Carraway (Virginia) improved to 3-1 on the season after pitching six strong innings. He gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits, while walking two and fanning seven.

Will Weidig (Brown) pitched a scoreless seventh, but ran into trouble in the eighth, loading the bases with nobody out. However, Russell Brewer (Vanderbilt) came on and got Ruf to line into a double-play and then got Ryan Jones (Wichita State) to ground out to end the inning.

After 11 scoreless innings, Brewer gave up his first two runs of the season in the ninth, but thanks to Dominguez's third homer in the bottom of the eighth, he was able to record his league-leading 10th save.

With the victory, the Mets (12-9) snapped a two-game losing streak and moved back into first place in the Western Division, ahead of Cotuit and Bourne, which are both 12-10. Falmoulth, meanwhile, dropped to 9-11-1 with the loss.

Hyannis plays at Orleans Thursday night before returning home to host Y-D Friday night at 7 p.m.

Longballs Lift Commodores

Falmouth- Ryan Jones(Whichita State) and AJ Pollack(Notre Dame) each hit a home run for Falmouth as the Commodores defeated the Mets 6-2.
