Monday, July 28, 2008Carraway and Dominguez Shine for Mets
Wareham- Andrew Carraway(Virginia) went 8 strong innings, striking out seven and allowing just one run, while Chris Dominguez(Louisville) provided the offense by launching two home runs, as the Mets beat the Gatemen 5-1.
Carraway controlled the game from the very beginning, after allowing a single to Raynor Campbell to lead off the game, Carraway proceeded to pick him off and then retire the next 12 Gatemen to come to the plate. The Mets took an early lead in the top of the 2nd, when Ryan Eden(New Orleans,3 hits, RBI) singled, then stole second on a botched pick-off move and was singled in by Curt Casali(Vanderbilt). Dominguez stepped to the plate in the top of the 6th, and laced a line drive home run, his 9th of the year, over the right field fence to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. Wareham cut the lead in half on a triple off the bat of Ryan Pineda(Cal St. Northridge), knocking in Shea Vucinich(Washington State) who had singled. The Mets put an end to the thought of a comeback in the 7th, when Dominguez dug in, and shot a 2-run home run into the Mets bullpen. Hyannis scored again in the top of the 8th as Eden singled in Casey Frawley(Stetson), who had doubled down the left field line to start the inning. Russell Brewer(Vanderbilt) came in for a 1-2-3 9th, which was capped off by Trent Ashcraft's(East Carolina) terrific sliding catch in foul territory to end the game. Chris Dominguez's 2 home runs tonight now gives him 10 on the year, 1 round tripper away from tying the Mets wooden bat record of 11 by Mike Glavine(1994). Dominguez also pulls within one multi-home run game of tying another Mets record, of 3 multi-home run games, set by Chris Morgan in 1985. The Mets(19-16) will get back to action Tuesday, July 29th in Falmouth at 7 pm Sunday, July 27, 2008Mets at the All-Star Game
It was good night for the Hyannis Mets All-Stars on Saturday in Chatham. OF Trent Ashcraft, 1B Ben Paulsen, and 3B Chris Dominguez were all in the starting line-up and RHPs Russell Brewer and Andrew Carraway pitched out of the bullpen.
Ashcraft went 1-4 with a single, Dominguez hit four balls out the ballpark in the home run derby, both pitchers pitch 1-2-3 innings, and Paulsen won the West squad's MVP award after his double and 2 RBI. Heard after the game: Dominguez, who hit just one home run in last year's home run hitting contest, put four out this year, despite saying that "Chatham is harder to home runs than Wareham because the wind blows in from left field." When asked about the number of Mets on the All-Star team he said, "you can tell what a good team we have in Hyannis." Ben Paulsen downplayed his MVP award and said the real fun was just getting to play with so many different guys. "I was just trying to their fastballs and trying to get the barrell on the ball," the MVP said of his two hits. Andrew Carraway described it as an "awesome experience and one of the best (he's) ever had." The Hyannis ace also broke down his one inning of work: "I started with (Tony Sanchez of Y-D) and went 2-2 to him. He flied out on a slider. I buckled down after that wakeup call with the ball being hit to the warning track. I got the next guy to pop-up and struck out the third hitter looking." The festivities of the All-Star Game are over now and the stretch is upon the Cape. The Mets look to make a final playoff push starting Sunday night at &7 P.M. at McKeon Park. Matt Ridings (WKU) was steller in relief, pitching three innings of shut-out baseball, giving up only two hits, striking out five, and picking up his first save of the season. Dale Cornstubble set the tone for the Mets early in the night when he picked off Jason Nappi (Miss. State), who had walked to lead off the game at first base to record the first out of the game. Cornstubble then capped the Mets three run fourth inning, hammering a two-run shot over the left-field fence to score himself, and Joey Gonzales (UC-Riverside). Gonzales picked up an RBI single on the previous at-bat, bringing home Ryan Eden who had reached base on a hard hit single to the short-stop and then stole second to move into scoring position. Hyannis would pick up one more run in the fifth when Chris Dominguez (Louisville) hit a double to score Trent Ashcraft (Eastern Carolina) who walked to get on base. Pitcher Alex McRee (Georgia) faced eight batters in the first inning and allowed 4 runs (only two of them earned) on 3 hits. Errors by Chris Dominguez (Louisville) and Matt Nuzzo allowed the other two runs to score. After the first inning McRee was able to settle down and and cruise through the third and fourth innings before running into a jam in the fourth when singles by Tom Stack-Babich (Harvard) and Shea Vucinich (Washington State), and a walk to Raynor Campbell (Baylor) loaded the bases for the Gatemen. McRee was able to pitch out of the jam though and end the frame, getting Ryan Pineda to fly-out, and striking out Dean Blake (LSU) to close out the inning. In the top of the 6th, Orleans took advantage of two Mets errors and had two huge back-to-back extra base hits off the bats of Mike Murphy(Maryland) who tripled, then Alex Hassan(Duke) who doubled. The Cardinals scored 5 in the 6th and took a 7-6 lead. The Mets did not wait long to answer, Jones led off the bottom of the 6th with a single, then Paulsen, who was a double away from the cycle, homered to right to give the Mets an 8-7 lead. The Hyannis Mets and the Harwich Mariners have already had trouble trying to play this baseball game. The first attempt earlier in the season was rained out, and it appeared that this one was headed that way as well. However after about an hour rain delay, baseball was played at McKeon Park in Hyannis.
The Mariners struck first in the second inning as they were able to get two across the plate on three hits. Brandon Belt (Texas) led off the inning with a single and then advanced to third on a double down the right field line by DJ LeMahieu (LSU). In the next at-bat Mark Fleury (UNC) singled up the middle to score Belt. LeMahieu then scored on a sacrifice fly by Chase Leavitt (Arkansas). The Mariners scored again in the fifth when Shaver Hansen (Baylor) scored on a double by Belt. The Mets were able to bring the game to a tie in the seventh on a Casey Frawley (Stetson) RBI. That was as much as Hyannis could muster on this night as they had a rough eigth inning giving up four runs on four hits and not being able to come back. Brian Dupra (Notre Dame) picked up the win for Harwich and Will Weidig (Brown) took the loss for the Mets. Hyannis will be in action tonight in Wareham at 7:00 and will be back at McKeon on Wednesday night with a 7:00 game against Cotuit. Monday, July 14, 2008Who Needs Off-Days?
The Hyannis Mets have played baseball everyday for 22 straight days now, but that does not seem to bother them as they looked great in front of a large crowd at McKeon Park tonight, picking up the 6-1 victory over the Cotuit Kettleers. Slugging third-baseman Chris Dominguez (Louisville) started the scoring in the first inning with a solo homerun. His league leading eighth homerun on the season. The Mets then got the bats rolling in the 3rd inning, scoring 3 runs. Each run was knocked in by a different hitter. Matt Nuzzo (Brown) walked to start the rally, and then advanced to third on Ryan Eden's (New Orleans) double to left-center field. Nuzzo then scored on a groundout by Trent Ashcraft (East Carolina). Eden moved up to third and then scored on a groundout by Marcus Jones (N.C. State). The last run of the inning was driven in by Ben Paulsen (Clemson) on a single. Paulsen added another RBI in the 8th with a double scoring Dominguez who had reached on a single. The Mets then capped off their scoring with a double by Casey Frawley (Stetson) that brought in Paulsen. The Kettleers were able to score a run in the 8th inning to avoid the shutout when Kevin Patterson (Auburn) knocked in Jeff Kobernus (Cal-Berkeley) who had doubled in the previous at-bat.
Austin Hudson (Central Florida) picked up the win for Hyannis going 4 1/3 innings without giving up a run. Hudson got into a bit of a jam in the fifth with runners on first and second with only one out. Wil Harvil (Georgia) was brought in and escaped the jam unscathed, by striking out both hitters that he faced. Ashur Tolliver (Arkansas) came in for the next three innings and was very effective. The game was closed out by Russell Brewer (Vanderbilt). Alex Sogard (N.C. State) took the loss for Cotuit. All in all, the Mets continued to look good this season and picked up their 3rd straight win. In a postgame interview, Mets centerfielder Marcus Jones said "We keep playing well as a team because we just go out and have fun, and that's why we win." They must really be having fun because Hyannis is still sitting in first place. Thursday, July 10, 2008Stoneburner and Ridings keep Cardinals Caged
Orleans- East met West tonight as a division leading clash turned into a defensive battle for the West Division leading Hyannis Mets and East leading Orleans Cardinals. The Mets (13-9) proved to much for the Cardinals though, winning their second straight game as Graham Stoneburner (Clemson) and Matt Ridings (WKU) combined for a two-hit shutout to blank the Cardinals
(13-9) 1-0. Stoneburner started the game and pitched five solid innings, giving up only two hits, walking three, and fanning three. Ridings improved to 1-1 and picked up two strikeouts on his way to the win. Marcus Jones (NC State) picked up his second RBI of the season when he hit a single that dropped in front of Orleans centerfielder Alex Hassan (Duke) and scored Ashcraft. Overall the Mets scored one run on six hits with no errors, while the Orleans Cardinals mustered only two hits and commited one error. The Hyannis Mets look to take on the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox tommorow night at 7pm under the bright lights of McKeon Park. Louisville slugger makes history in Mets win
Third baseman Chris Dominguez (Louisville) joined elite company Wednesday night when he hit three homers to carry Hyannis to a 6-4 victory over Falmouth at McKeon Park.
Dominguez became just the second player in Cape Cod Baseball League history to go deep three times in a game with a wood bat. MLB great Frank Thomas was the first, doing so in 1988. The fifth-round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies staked the Mets to a 2-0 lead in the first, sending Alex Wilson's offering well over the fence in straightaway center field. Dominguez hit his second homer in the sixth, a line drive to left-centerfield that left the park in a hurry. His third round-tripper came with one on in the eighth, giving Hyannis some much-needed breathing room heading into the ninth and bringing the packed crowd to its feet. Dominguez also had a terrific day in the field. In the seventh, he caught a line drive off the bat of Joey Wong (Falmouth) and fired across to first for an inning-ending double-play. In the eighth, he grabbed another liner off the bat of Darin Ruf (Creighton) and touched the bag to help the Mets get out of a bases-loaded jam unscathed. Then, with Falmouth rallying in the ninth, Dominguez made a nice catch against the dugout railing. Andrew Carraway (Virginia) improved to 3-1 on the season after pitching six strong innings. He gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits, while walking two and fanning seven. Will Weidig (Brown) pitched a scoreless seventh, but ran into trouble in the eighth, loading the bases with nobody out. However, Russell Brewer (Vanderbilt) came on and got Ruf to line into a double-play and then got Ryan Jones (Wichita State) to ground out to end the inning. After 11 scoreless innings, Brewer gave up his first two runs of the season in the ninth, but thanks to Dominguez's third homer in the bottom of the eighth, he was able to record his league-leading 10th save. With the victory, the Mets (12-9) snapped a two-game losing streak and moved back into first place in the Western Division, ahead of Cotuit and Bourne, which are both 12-10. Falmoulth, meanwhile, dropped to 9-11-1 with the loss. Hyannis plays at Orleans Thursday night before returning home to host Y-D Friday night at 7 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2008Longballs Lift Commodores

Falmouth starter Chris Gloor(Quinnipiac) retired the first 10 Mets he faced before Dale Cornstubble(Central Michigan) hit an infield single in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the 5th, Jones stepped up and laced a 2-run home run to right center to put the Commodores ahead 2-0. The Mets did not wait long to answer when Chris Dominguez(Louisville) shot an RBI double off the right field fence scoring Casey Frawley(Stetson), who had singled earlier in the inning. Brewster took an early lead with three runs in the third inning when Mississippi State's Jason Nappi singled to lead off. He was sacrificed over and came in to score on a Ty Kelly (UC Davis) single.
