Mets Regain First Place

Hyannis- After nearly three weeks, the Hyannis Mets are once again on top of the Western Division of the Cape Cod Baseball League with a 6-5 win over the Wareham Gatemen. Winning pitcher Will Harvil(Georgia) worked four scoreless innings of relief to raise his record to 3-0.

Wareham scored 2 runs in each of the first two innings, starting with the 2nd batter of the game, Ryan Pineda(Northridge) who tripled to right-center scoring Raynor Campbell(Baylor). Blake Dean(LSU) then singled in Pineda to end the Gatemen scoring in the first. Brett Eibner(Arkansas) laced a solo home run to lead off the 2nd, three batters later, Campbell's sacrifice fly to left scored the Gatemen's fourth run.

Hyannis' bats woke up in the 3rd after Trent Ashcraft(E. Carolina) lead off with a single, Ben Paulsen(Clemson) turned on a pitch and hit a line drive home run just inside the "Nick 'the Greek' Foul Pole" in right field to cut the Mets deficit in half 4-2. Vanderbilt's Curt Casali lead off the 4th with a triple to left and scored on Ryan Eden's(New Orleans) RBI ground out.

The Mets took control in the bottom of the 7th, after Ashcraft singled and Paulsen walked, the two pulled off a double steal putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with just one out. Chris Dominguez(Louisville) got an RBI on a ground out to short tying the game, one batter later Marcus Jones(NC State) doubled in the go ahead run and got to 3rd on a throwing error. Jones then scored on an error off the bat of Casali putting the Mets up 6-4. The Gatemen scored one in the 8th to make it 6-5, but Ryan Sharpley(Notre Dame) ended the threat and was able to notch his first save of the season.

With this win, the Mets(22-18) take over sole possession of first place with 44 points, followed by Falmouth(43 points) and Cotuit(42 points) making the final week of the regular season, one exciting week of baseball. The Mets return to action tomorrow in a make-up game against Bourne at 7 pm at McKeon.
