Hyannis Team Coverage 2008Friday, July 4, 2008Mets Win Third Straight
Hyannis knocked off two-time defending champion Yarmouth-Dennis 5-2 on Friday night on their way to their third straight win.
The Mets scored first and never looked back. Trent Ashcraft (East Carolina) started the game with a double, his first extra base hit of the season, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Clemson's Ben Paulsen. Hyannis scored two runs in both the third and fourth innings. In the third Casey Frawley of Stetson and Dale Cornstubble (Michigan) each had RBI singles. The fourth inning featured RBI hits by Frawley and Ashcraft. Those runs would be all the Mets needed as Graham Stoneburner (Clemson) had his best start of year, going 6 innings and allowing just 1 run on 7 hits while striking out 5 to pick up the win. LSU's Sean Ochinko scored on a Tyler Marmion (San Diego State) hit in third for Y-D and Keenan Wiley of Kentucky came home on Andy Wilkins' (Arkansas) hit in the eighth for the only Red Sox runs. Jerry Sullivan of Oral Roberts took the loss for Yarmouth-Dennis and Russell Brewer saved his league leading 8th game of the season. The Mets have to divisional matchups coming up, first at home on Saturday against Bourne and then on Sunday in Cotuit. Archives
