Hyannis Team Coverage 2008Sunday, July 27, 2008Mets at the All-Star Game
It was good night for the Hyannis Mets All-Stars on Saturday in Chatham. OF Trent Ashcraft, 1B Ben Paulsen, and 3B Chris Dominguez were all in the starting line-up and RHPs Russell Brewer and Andrew Carraway pitched out of the bullpen.
Ashcraft went 1-4 with a single, Dominguez hit four balls out the ballpark in the home run derby, both pitchers pitch 1-2-3 innings, and Paulsen won the West squad's MVP award after his double and 2 RBI. Heard after the game: Dominguez, who hit just one home run in last year's home run hitting contest, put four out this year, despite saying that "Chatham is harder to home runs than Wareham because the wind blows in from left field." When asked about the number of Mets on the All-Star team he said, "you can tell what a good team we have in Hyannis." Ben Paulsen downplayed his MVP award and said the real fun was just getting to play with so many different guys. "I was just trying to their fastballs and trying to get the barrell on the ball," the MVP said of his two hits. Andrew Carraway described it as an "awesome experience and one of the best (he's) ever had." The Hyannis ace also broke down his one inning of work: "I started with (Tony Sanchez of Y-D) and went 2-2 to him. He flied out on a slider. I buckled down after that wakeup call with the ball being hit to the warning track. I got the next guy to pop-up and struck out the third hitter looking." The festivities of the All-Star Game are over now and the stretch is upon the Cape. The Mets look to make a final playoff push starting Sunday night at &7 P.M. at McKeon Park. Archives
