Hyannis Team Coverage 2008Thursday, July 3, 2008Lucky Number 13
It took 13 innings and about 3 hours and 40 minutes, but the Hyannis Mets finally topped the Harwich Mariners 5-4 at McKeon Park on Thursday. They Mets did so on the strength of a Chris Dominguez (Louisville) RBI single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 13th.
The Mets scored one in the 2nd on a Joey Gonzales (UC Riverside) single that plated Ryan Eden of New Orelans and one in the 5th when Stetson's Casey Frawley scored on a fielder's choice. Hyannis took that 2-0 lead to the 7th, but Ashur Tolliver (Arkansas-Little Rock) allowed 2 runs, as he walked the first two hitters of the inning who would both come around to score on a DJ Belfonte (Nebraska) single. Both teams scored runs in the 10th inning. Dustin Ackley of North Carolina scored on an error to put Harwich on top, but Hyannis answered, scoring on a clutch, two out single by Gonzales to tie it at 3. Texas' Brandon Belt homered in the 13th to put Harwich up yet again, but the Mets battled back to score two runs, on singles by Ben Paulsen (Clemson) and Dominguez to earn the win. The win went to to Will Weidig (Brown) who threw 4 innings of relief, while Michael Morrison of Cal State Fullerton took the loss. Virginia's Andrew Carraway started the game for the Mets and went 6 innings shutout innings, striking out 8, to continue his impressive start. The Mets travel to Yarmouth-Dennis on Friday before playing at home again on Saturday against the Bourne Braves. Archives
