Hyannis Team Coverage 2008Monday, July 7, 2008Longballs Lift Commodores
Falmouth- Ryan Jones(Whichita State) and AJ Pollack(Notre Dame) each hit a home run for Falmouth as the Commodores defeated the Mets 6-2. Jacksonville State's Ben Tootle pitched 2 innings of relief to earn his 2nd win of the year for the Commodores.
Falmouth starter Chris Gloor(Quinnipiac) retired the first 10 Mets he faced before Dale Cornstubble(Central Michigan) hit an infield single in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the 5th, Jones stepped up and laced a 2-run home run to right center to put the Commodores ahead 2-0. The Mets did not wait long to answer when Chris Dominguez(Louisville) shot an RBI double off the right field fence scoring Casey Frawley(Stetson), who had singled earlier in the inning. The very next inning, the Mets tied the game after Ben Paulsen(Clemson) singled to lead off the inning, then was knocked in on Joey Gonzales'(UC-Riverside) line drive double over the center fielder's head. The Commodores answered back in the bottom of the 8th when Pollack turned on a pitch and sent a 3-run home run to left. The Commodores added one more insurance run in the 8th to put themselves up 6-2. The Mets(11-8) will head to Cotuit Tuesday, July 8th at 5 pm for game 3 of the Patriot Cup, which the Mets lead 2-0. They will return to Hyannis on Wednesday, July 9th at 7 pm against Falmouth. Archives
