Carraway and Dominguez Shine for Mets

Wareham- Andrew Carraway(Virginia) went 8 strong innings, striking out seven and allowing just one run, while Chris Dominguez(Louisville) provided the offense by launching two home runs, as the Mets beat the Gatemen 5-1.

Carraway controlled the game from the very beginning, after allowing a single to Raynor Campbell to lead off the game, Carraway proceeded to pick him off and then retire the next 12 Gatemen to come to the plate. The Mets took an early lead in the top of the 2nd, when Ryan Eden(New Orleans,3 hits, RBI) singled, then stole second on a botched pick-off move and was singled in by Curt Casali(Vanderbilt). Dominguez stepped to the plate in the top of the 6th, and laced a line drive home run, his 9th of the year, over the right field fence to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.

Wareham cut the lead in half on a triple off the bat of Ryan Pineda(Cal St. Northridge), knocking in Shea Vucinich(Washington State) who had singled. The Mets put an end to the thought of a comeback in the 7th, when Dominguez dug in, and shot a 2-run home run into the Mets bullpen. Hyannis scored again in the top of the 8th as Eden singled in Casey Frawley(Stetson), who had doubled down the left field line to start the inning. Russell Brewer(Vanderbilt) came in for a 1-2-3 9th, which was capped off by Trent Ashcraft's(East Carolina) terrific sliding catch in foul territory to end the game.

Chris Dominguez's 2 home runs tonight now gives him 10 on the year, 1 round tripper away from tying the Mets wooden bat record of 11 by Mike Glavine(1994). Dominguez also pulls within one multi-home run game of tying another Mets record, of 3 multi-home run games, set by Chris Morgan in 1985. The Mets(19-16) will get back to action Tuesday, July 29th in Falmouth at 7 pm
