Braves Take 1st Place

Bourne- For the first time since the end of June, the Hyannis Mets are not in first place in the Western Division of the Cape Cod Baseball League. The Mets (16-16) dropped their 7th straight game and 2nd game in four days to the Bourne Braves by the score of 9-2.

Bourne(17-15) got the scoring started in the 2nd with a fielder's choice off the bat of Tyler Cannon(Virginia) that scored Brad Stephenson(Norfolk St.), who walked to lead off the inning. The next batter, Jordan Henry(Mississippi) singled to right field scoring a 2nd run and giving the Braves a 2-0 advantage. The very next inning, Bourne scored 2 more run off a Ground Rule Double to left-center field by Stephenson(2 hits, 2 RBI).

Hyannis got 2 runs back in the top of the fifth, when Brown's Matt Nuzzo hit a 2-run homer to left. That was Nuzzo's first home run of the year and gave the Mets some life closing the gap to 5-2. Bourne ended the Mets threat in the 6th with a home run off the bat of Marc Krauss(Ohio) and an RBI single from Stephenson. The Braves added two more runs in the 8th, on Jamie Johnson's(Oklahoma) Ground Rule Double down the left field line, that plated Pierre Lepage(UConn) and Krauss. The Mets defense did not help any of the pitchers, Drew Muren(Cal State Northridge), Will Harvil(Georgia), Ashur Tolliver(Arkansas-Little Rock) or Russell Brewer(Vanderbilt), by committing 6 errors, which led to 5 unearned runs.

Hyannis will play again on Monday, July 21, against Brewster at 7pm in Hyannis. They will then travel to Harwich on Tuesday, July 22, to play the Mariners at 7pm before having two well-deserved days off on Wednesday and Thurday, July 23 and 24. Those off days will end the consecutive games in as many days at 22.
