Hyannis Team Coverage 2008Friday, June 20, 2008Tolliver and Glantz Propel Mets to Win Over Y-D
Hyannis- Ashur Tolliver (University of Arkansas) pitched four innings of relief to get his first win of the 2008 season as the Mets defeated the two-time defending champions the Y-D Red Sox in a 6-4 win on Thursday, June 19th. With this win, the Mets (3-2) ended their two-game losing streak.
Y-D got the scoring started in the 1st when Greg Miclat ( University of Virginia) reached on a bunt, then went on to steal 2nd and 3rd base, and was finally knocked in by Nick Liles' ( Western Carolina) RBI single. Mike Tamsin (Northeastern) walked to open the 2nd and was driven in by Miclat. In the Mets half of the 2nd, the bats came alive with back to back singles singles by Dale Cornstubble (Central Michigan, 3 hits) and Austin Adams(Faulkner.) They would both later score on an error by Y-D. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Mets struck again, the big hit coming off the bat of Michael Glantz(Young Harris.) Glantz roped a two-out RBI double to left center off Red Sox pitcher Chris Masters (Western Carolina) scoring Luke Murton(Georgia Tech, double), Curt Casali(Vanderbilt) and Cornstubble. A scary moment came with 2 outs in the top of the 7th as Tolliver was struck in the lower leg by a broken bat. After a few warm up tosses, Tolliver was cleared to go and he went on to retire the 3rd out of the inning. Russell Brewer(Vanderbilt) came on to relieve Tolliver in the 8th to notch a two-inning save, his third save of this young season. In the bottom of the 8th, the Mets added some insurance when Ryan Eden (New Orleans, 2 hits, RBI and a Stolen Base) knocked an RBI double. Casey Frawley(Stetson) added two hits for the Mets. The Mets will play again on Friday, June 20th at 7pm against Orleans at Mckeon Park, Hyannis. Archives
