Mets Take Opener

For the first time since 2003 the Hyannis Mets find themselves with a record of 1-0 to start the Cape League season. The Mets defeated the Chatham A's 4-3 at Veterans Field in Chatham on Saturday to start the season on a high note.
Casey Frawley (Stetson) delivered the game's key hit, a two on, two out single to center in the top of ninth with game tied at three to put the Mets on top by their final margin. Ben Paulson (Clemson) was a big contributor for Hyannis as well, going 2-5 with three runs batted in.
The game was a back and forth battle throughout, with Chatham getting the scoring started by pushing two runs across in the first off Mets starter Austin Hudson (Central Florida). Hyannis answered with two of their own in the fifth. An A's run in the sixth and a Mets run in the seventh tied it at three, before the Frawley tie-breaking hit.
Pitching was a highlight throughout, with Chatham striking out 13 Mets and Hyannis returning the favor 14 times, including seven by Notre Dame reliever Ryan Sharpley in just three innings pitched.
Cal Northridge's Drew Muren picked up the win (1-0) and the loss went to Kevin Couture of USC (0-1), while Russell Brewer (Vanderbilt) picked up his first save.
The Mets play their home opener on Sunday at 7 P.M., the first regular season game under McKeon Park's new lights, against the two time defending CCBL champion Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.
