Hyannis Mets Game StoriesSunday, June 17, 2007Mets drop game #3 9-8 in Cotuit
COTUIT - One inning was all it took for the Cotuit Kettleers to get what they needed Sunday night, as they took care of the Hyannis Mets 9-3 at Lowell Park. Jason Franzblau, the Hyannis starter out of Winthrop, was cruising through four innings having allowed just one run on two hits, but found himself in hot water in the fifth.
Cotuit was able to string together six consecutive hits to lead off the inning, as well as having two more men reach on a pair of fielders choices. All of that chased Franzblau from the game, as he was relieved by lefty Ricardo Pecina. The exclamation point was put on the inning when Robert Stock hit a three run home run to right field. Cotuit ended up needed all eight runs in the fifth plus one an inning earlier as the Mets began to peck away, scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth, three more in the sixth and one a piece in each the eight and the ninth. Matt Wright started for the Kettleers, going 4 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on three hits while striking out 5. Josh Lindblom got the win in relief, while Franzblau took the loss, dropping the Mets to 1-2. Garrett Richards recorded the save. Dan Brewer stayed hot, reaching base four times in five at-bats, tallying an RBI and a run scored as well. Shane Peterson had his first big game of the year, racking up six total bases, including a double and a triple. Hyannis also got its much anticipated arrival of South Carolina third baseman James Darnell, who arrived on Sunday afternoon. Hyannis returns to action on Monday evening, welcoming the Harwich Mariners to McKeon Park for the first time in 2007. Chris Blake ArchivesSubscribe to Posts [Atom] |
