Mets beat rival Kettleers, 8-6

HYANNIS - Kiko Vazquez (Central Florida) hit a three run home run and Tyler Stohr (North Florida) earned his third save as the Hyannis Mets defeated their crosstown rivals the Cotuit Kettleers 8-6 Monday night at McKeon Park.

Oklahoma's Andrew Doyle took the ball for Hyannis, going 8 innings while allowing 8 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned, 2 walks, and struck out 2 all en route to his second win in as many tries. Ryan Strauss of Florida State came on in relief of Kettleers starter Jason Rook (Appalachian State) and took the loss, allowing 5 runs, 3 earned, in 3 innings of work.

Cotuit opened the scoring in the first inning, as Aaron Baker (Oklahoma) hit the first pitch of the game over the wall in right center field for a home run. The Kettleers would tack on two more in the top of the fourth, as the received an RBI single by Reese Havens (South Carolina), who later scored on a throwing error to make it 3-0.

Hyannis would cut the lead to one in their half of the inning, getting a sacrifice from Ryan Jackson (Miami) and a run scoring single from Phil Bell (UAB). The Mets took the lead for good in the fifth, when Vazquez stepped up and knocked the first pitch he saw out to left for a three run bomb that made the score 5-3.

Hyannis tacked on a couple more in the seventh, as Jackson registered two more RBI, giving him three for the day, and one more in the eighth on David Macias' (Vanderbilt) first run batted in on the year.

Cotuit threated, scoring three in the eighth, but Stohr was there in the ninth to slam the door and register his third save of the season. The Mets return to action on Tuesday to take on the Falmouth Commodores at 5 P.M. at McKeon Park.
