The Hyannis Athletic Association is a nonprofit volunteer organization that oversees the year-round support and operation of the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. Through fundraising efforts and thousands of hours donated by an all-volunteer membership, the H.A.A. works behind the scenes at McKeon Park and in the community to ensure that the Harbor Hawks are counted among the premier franchises in the Cape Cod Baseball League. Volunteers with the H.A.A. perform a myriad of tasks that are necessary to field a Cape League team. They house players in the summer, hire coaches for the team, find jobs for players in the community, and oversee capital improvement projects at McKeon Park. At each game, they collect gate donations and sell 50/50 raffle tickets, perform grounds maintenance and cleanup, operate the team's merchandise mart, and promote upcoming team and league events. The H.A.A. is an active community supporter, from its membership in the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce to the Harbor Hawks' free annual youth clinic at McKeon Park. The concession stand at McKeon Park is staffed by the Barnstable High School Marching Band Boosters, which receives a portion of the proceeds for one of its major summer fundraisers. In addition to awarding an annual scholarship to a Barnstable High School student whose extracurricular activities exemplify a spirit of volunteerism and a love for sports, the H.A.A. also awards weekly "scholarships" for its youth clinics to local elementary school students from lower-income families.
McKeon Park has undergone a dramatic transformation over the last decade through the hard work and dedication of the H.A.A. New bleachers have been added along with a landscaped seating section down the left field line, dubbed "Aylmer's Alley" in honor of team founder Jack Aylmer, that offers some of the best sight lines in the Cape League. Other improvements include a rosebush berm along the main entrance to the park, a batting tunnel beyond the left field fence, and added speakers as part of an improved public address system. In 2010, the H.A.A. added a new scoreboard (below) to McKeon Park through the generous support of the Hyannis Rotary Club and Eye Health Services, with special thanks to past H.A.A. president Randy Shepard. The organization also moved to complete a two-year expansion of the park's press box, more than doubling the total indoor space while improving service for concessions and souvenir patrons.
