Red Sox All-Stars take Mets deep

HYANNIS – It was over just as quickly as it began Tuesday night in Hyannis, as Bryce Stowell (UC Irvine) gave up six runs early, and the Mets dropped the game 8-2 to the league's best team, the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. Sean Ochinko (LSU), Jason Castro (Stanford), and Aaron Luna (Rice) all homered for Y-D in the victory that moved the Red Sox to 23-10-1. Hyannis fell to 13-19-2 on the year.

The Red Sox got on the board right away, as three of the first four men reached base, including a run scoring double from All-Star Gordon Beckham (Georgia) that plated Grant Green (USC). With two on and one out, Ochinko delivered his sixth home run of the season, a three run shot. In the top of the second, Yarmouth-Dennis added on when Joey Railey (San Francisco) reached on a single to lead off and came around on Castro’s third of the year.

Those two innings would be it for Stowell, who gave up six earned runs on seven hits and struck out one. Red Sox starter, Jerry Sullivan (Oral Roberts), pitched six shutout innings, allowing only two hits, while striking out four.

Hyannis would scratch out their two runs in the eight when Joey Gonzales (UC Riverside) delivered a bases loaded double to score Francis Larson (UC Irvine) and Patrick Long (Georgia Tech). The Mets would squander the rest of the inning though, leaving the bases loaded.

After scoring a run in the top of the sixth, Y-D added one last run in the top of the ninth on an Aaron Luna solo shot to make it 8-2, which is how it would end. Stowell (1-3) took the loss, while Sullivan (1-0) earned the win in his Cape League debut.

Yarmouth-Dennis continues to lead the East, while Hyannis will continue to sit in third place in the Western Division. Hyannis places a makeup game Wednesday night at home against Wareham, a 5:00 P.M. start.
