Hudson's Strong Outing Topples Whitecaps

Austin Hudson (Central Florida) pitched eight strong innings against Brewster tonight at Mckeon Park as the Mets cruised by the Whitecaps 12-2. After a leadoff hit from Blake Tekotte (Miami) and an RBI single from Yonder Alanso (Miami), follwed by another RBI single fromCharlie Cutler (Cal), it looked like we were going to be in for a long night. However the Mets bats bounced back to even the score at two. Joey Gonzalez (UC Riverside) started it off with a walk, followed by a single from James Darnell (South Carolina) and a double by Dan Brewer, (Bradley) that was four feet from going over the fence scoring both Gonzalez and Darnell to put the Mets back in the game.

Hudson settled right down after the first inning fanning five batters and not allowing a baserunner past first for the next seven innings. His slider had lots of movement and was gettting alot of batters to hit weak fly balls that didnt leave the infield.

The Mets All-Stars didn't disapoint tonight either. Dan Brewer showed why he will be starting DH in tommorrow's All-Star game in Wareham going two for five, with two doubles,a run scored and four RBI, and Shane Peterson (Long Beach) was right there with Brewer going two for three woth two runsand a stolen base.

After a five run eighth inning to put the Mets at twelve, Bryce Stowell (UC Irvine) game in in the ninth to realieve Hudson. After giving up a bloop single to Yonder Alanso, Alanso got greedy on a wild pitch that he misread the hop because it bounced right back to Francis Larson (UC Irvine) who was in perfect position to throw out Alanso at second. Getting the next two batters to strike out and groundout, the Mets continued their winning streak as they head into All-Star weekend.

Hyannis does not play until Monday when they are at Harwich, but you can catch some Mets in action tommorrow in Wareham for the annual Cape Cod League All-Star Game. James Darnell, Dan Brewer, Shane Peterson, Garrett Sherrill, and Tyler Stohr are representing your Mets, with Peterson starting on outfield and Brewer starting DH.
