--SOUTH YARMOUTH--A pinch-hit single by Ryan Rohlinger gave the Y-D Red Sox the winning run in the ninth inning, as the Hyannis Mets fell 3-2 on Friday afternoon at Red Wilson Field. The win guaranteed the Red Sox a spot in the Eastern Division Playoffs, while the Wareham and Cotuit losses elsewhere in league action kept the Mets in a stagnant second-place tie with the Gatemen in the West.

Rohlinger's single to right field brought home Jim Rapoport from second base with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Rapoport reached on an infield error and moved to second on a wild pitch.

The Mets had labored in the top of that inning to tie the game, taking advantage of back-to-back walks issued by Blake Holler to put two men on base with one out. Mike Costantino's base hit up the middle scored Mike Costanzo from second base. Costantino scored the Mets' first run in the seventh after a two-out double to left center. A Shane Robinson double to left field brought Costantino home and chased Y-D starter Cory VanAllen from the game after 6 2/3 innings.

Y-D took broke an early scoreless deadlock with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Bryan Byrne drove home Adam Davis and Joe Anthonsen with a single to left field. Davis was the lone multiple hitter for the Red Sox, going 2-for-4 with a single and a double.

Hyannis starter Ryan Kennedy pitched effectively through seven full innings of work, striking out five and walking one while allowing the two earned runs on five hits. Reliever Graham Taylor (1-2) took the unfortunate loss in 1 1/3 innings, striking out one and surrendering the unearned run on two hits.

VanAllen gave up just four hits and one run, walking two and fanning one in his starting outing. Joshua Faiola (3-2) saw a blown save turn into a winning effort of 2/3 innings with a strikeout and a hit allowed (one of his inherited runners, Costanzo, did score the tying run). Brett Harker retired all five men he faced in relief of VanAllen.

Shane Robinson and Costantino each had two of Hyannis's five hits, including a double and an RBI apiece. Jay Miller had the first Mets hit, a single to right field to lead off the fourth inning.

Stats of note...the Mets fall to 2-10 in one-run games this season...with a pinch-hit fielder's choice in the ninth, Pat Reilly reached base in his 15th consecutive road game, a streak stretching back to the Mets' first game at Red Wilson Field on July 4...in the final weekend of the season, the Mets have the opportunity to clinch second place in the Western Division with three home wins; victories in both games of Saturday's doubleheader will eliminate fourth-place Cotuit while forcing at worst a tie with Wareham.
