HYANNIS — The old scoreboard is still there in right field. The lights are out now. The spots for “Guest” and “Hyannis” and at-bats, inning number and count never to flicker on again. Now, it’s just a vestige, a relic, a blue block of wood.

Judy Walden Scarafile got her start as a scorekeeper and baseball writer for her high school newspaper. When she got to college at the University of Connecticut, she brought her portfolio — "a glorified scrapbook in those days," she says — to the sports editor and asked to cover the baseball team.

HAVE AN OPEN OR SPARE ROOM?

The best collegiate baseball players in the country will be headed to Cape Cod this summer and are looking to join your family as they chase their dreams of becoming a major league baseball player.

THE PLAYERS

In 2016, 297 Major League Baseball Players had spent some time playing in the Cape Cod Baseball League and that list is growing. Names like Jackie Bradley Jr., Chris Sale, Kris Bryant, Aaron Judge, and George Springer all spent a summer on Cape Cod living with a host family!

THE PERKS

Host brothers and sisters are given on field access after home games, priority for bat boys/bat girl opportunities, families receive a stipend to help with some of the costs of adding a family member for the summer.
