HYANNIS — The old scoreboard is still there in right field. The lights are out now. The spots for “Guest” and “Hyannis” and at-bats, inning number and count never to flicker on again. Now, it’s just a vestige, a relic, a blue block of wood.

Improvements Planned

Women In CCBL

Judy Walden Scarafile got her start as a scorekeeper and baseball writer for her high school newspaper. When she got to college at the University of Connecticut, she brought her portfolio — "a glorified scrapbook in those days," she says — to the sports editor and asked to cover the baseball team.

A call from the Cape

"As he waited, Bradley’s thoughts may have drifted to much earlier in the day, which began with a phone call back on the Cape from Tino DiGiovanni, one of his family hosts in 2009 when Bradley played for the Hyannis Mets."

“We hear hundreds of stories every year about Major Leaguers visiting children in need. It isn't every day, however, that one of those kids ends up becoming a professional baseball player himself.”

The Hyannis Athletic Association is thrilled to include a number of talented, motivated student interns among its volunteer ranks each summer. Volunteer interns with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks receive valuable experience in a wide variety of fields while enjoying a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Alumni of the Hyannis Harbor Hawks internship program have found exciting employment opportunities open to them in the fields of broadcasting, sports information, marketing, public relations, and management.

We utilize college interns primarily during the season, although there are many duties that can be performed before the season begins. We encourage our interns to be proactive and take on as much responsibility and tasks as they would like. As with anything else, you get out of it what you put in. We value input from our interns and hope you are willing to share your ideas and experiences to make our program better. All interns are directly involved with game day preparation and tasks. In past years interns have also worked in the community on promotion of the team, participated in our youth activities, solicited area businesses for support, written game day summaries, photographed the games, and helped to produce our internet broadcasts. These are just a few of the activities you could be involved in.

Before you proceed in the application process please be aware of the following requirements

All internships are volunteer positions (unpaid) Our intern program would be happy to work with your college or university to develop a for credit internship. We do ask that you give us the criteria in advance so we can work with you-and the school so we can meet all the necessary requirements. Interns are responsible for their own housing. Interns are expected to be at all home games at least 1½ hours before game time. Interns must follow the same code of conduct as all volunteers and players in the organization. Interns are expected to participate in several special events outside of the home game schedule. Every effort will be made to provide the schedule to you as soon as it is available. It is expected that you will set up your work schedule around the home game/special event schedule of the Hyannis Harbor Hawks.

Students interested in a volunteer internship with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks should contact intern coordinator Laurie Pfeifer at harborhawkinterns@gmail.com. Prospective volunteer interns need to provide a résumé, references, and other samples as deemed necessary for a desired position within the organization.
